With funding from the ECMC Foundation, Credential Engine began a partnership in 2018 with the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce and UNITE-LA on a Los Angeles Credential Data Collaborative. Phase One of this project introduced Credential Engine’s mission and work to stakeholders in the region, collected insights from employers, training providers, and end-user serving organizations, and developed an implementation plan for the region. In February 2020, Credential Engine and UNITE-LA – a nonprofit organization that leads cradle-to-career programming, systems change and policy advocacy efforts to improve education and workforce outcomes for underserved youth in the Los Angeles region – launched Phase Two of the project. Over the next two years, the project will publish rich information about credentials offered by community colleges with the goal of expanding to 4-year institutions, training providers, bootcamps, and other stakeholders in Los Angeles County. This phase will take a two-pronged approach to both map and publish data from statewide postsecondary systems, as well as work with local institutions to provide richness and added context. The team will identify opportunities to build Registry data into tools and applications that are already in use in the area, and also host a hackathon to expand the applications marketplace to support end-users.
