The Credential Engine “Counting Credentials” report offers valuable insights into the growing landscape of credentials by tracking and quantifying credential data across various U.S. sectors. The data highlighted in the report is crucial for employers, educators, policymakers, and learners, as it highlights trends, gaps, and opportunities in workforce development. It also supports efforts to enhance credential transparency and interoperability, contributing to a more efficient labor market and ensuring credentials align with industry needs.
As Credential Engine begins work on the 5th edition of the Counting Credentials Report, scheduled for release in late 2025, we invite the public to support and enhance the report’s impact. The upcoming edition will focus on the following goals:
- Refine categories in the report on providers, programs, and credentials.
- Improve accuracy in counts, including de-duplicating digital badges from their credentials.
- Conduct the first count of the growing digital credential and skills marketplace.
- Assess the availability of credential and skills data in open formats for digital tools.
- Ensure both technical and non-technical audiences understand the credential marketplace and its value.
We have established a group of Subject Matter Experts to participate in the Counting Credential Research Advisory Group and are calling on the public to attend recurring meetings to share insights via chat and support the group’s work.
The first public meeting will take place on December 12th at 3 pm ET, with subsequent meeting dates to be determined. Once registered, you’ll be able to attend all public meetings, participate in discussions, access resources, and receive webinar recordings if unable to attend live. These meetings are rolling, allowing attendance flexibility, with topics evolving to align with the Advisory Group’s goals.
