Credential Engine’s recently launched Issuer Identity Registry (IIR) marks an important step toward strengthening trust in digital credentials. By enabling organizations to verify the identity of credential issuers, the IIR provides critical infrastructure for transparent, trustworthy credential ecosystems.
Building trust also requires thoughtful governance, practical implementation, and collaboration across learn and work ecosystems. That’s why Credential Engine is launching the Trust Advisory Group (TAG) and inviting an open group of stakeholders to help shape how the IIR is adopted, governed, and used to strengthen trust across global credential ecosystems.
Whether you’re issuing credentials, verifying them, developing credential technologies, supporting learners, or helping shape policy, your experience and perspective can help ensure the IIR meets the needs of the communities it serves.
Why Participate?
The TAG offers an opportunity to help shape the future of trusted credential ecosystems and help guide this work by providing input in three key areas:
- Adoption: Advise on audience-specific strategies, messaging, and resources that help stakeholder communities understand the value of trusted credential issuers and take meaningful steps toward IIR adoption.
- Governance: Review and provide input on implementing the IIR Governance Framework, including participation requirements, accountability practices, and oversight policies that support trusted credential ecosystems.
- Use Cases and Examples: Identify and refine real-world examples that demonstrate how adoption of the IIR strengthens trust in digital credentials across governments, issuers, verifiers, recipients, technology providers, and other stakeholders.
Credential Engine will actively incorporate Advisory Group feedback wherever possible as the IIR continues to evolve.
About the Issuer Identity Registry
The IIR addresses one of the most persistent challenges in the digital credential landscape: verifying that the organization issuing a credential is who they claim to be.
By connecting verified issuer identities with credential and organization data published in the Credential Registry, the IIR provides the trust infrastructure that makes digital credentials more transparent, portable, and trustworthy.
Who Should Join?
The TAG is open to any organization or individual interested in supporting trusted global credential ecosystems.
Prior experience with issuer identity registries is not required. While discussions will include technical concepts, the Advisory Group is intentionally designed for participants with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
Expected Outcomes
The work of the TAG will help produce:
- Recommendations that support adoption of the IIR across stakeholder communities.
- Feedback to evolve the IIR Governance Framework.
- Real-world use cases demonstrating how trusted issuer identities strengthen digital credentials.
- Outreach resources and examples that help organizations understand and adopt trusted issuer identities.
All final resources and outputs developed through the Advisory Group will be made publicly available to support transparency, accountability, and continued collaboration across the credential ecosystem.
Meeting Schedule
The Trust Advisory Group will meet virtually via Zoom for one-hour sessions, with opportunities to provide feedback between meetings through shared documents and working drafts.Â
Participants will receive meeting invitations, agendas, supporting materials, summaries, recordings, and ongoing access to shared resources.Â
