Funded by Ascendium, Credential Engine and the Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC) launched the Midwest Credential Transparency Alliance (MCTA) in January 2021 with a strategic focus on the use of a regional community of practice to advance credential transparency to ensure that information about all credentials in the region is transparent, connected, comparable, comprehensive, and usable. As part of this work, Credential Engine is providing support to midwest states who have not yet begun engaging in this work. In Iowa, the Department of Education’s Community College and Workforce Preparation Division will carry the work forward. In addition to participation in the MCTA, the goals in Iowa include inventorying all credentials in the state and publishing all credentials and their competencies in Iowa Department of Education’s Community College and Workforce Preparation Division’s jurisdiction to the Registry.
