About

Vermont

Leaders in Vermont recognize that all stakeholders — learners, employers, education and training providers, and others — benefit when information about credentials is easily accessible and explained in a common language.

In 2016, leaders in Vermont set an ambitious workforce training goal for the state: 70% of residents will hold a postsecondary credential of value — including degrees, diplomas, certificates, and apprenticeships — by 2025.

According to Advance Vermont, 80% of high-pay, high-demand jobs in the state require a credential of value, and 66% of jobs require postsecondary education or training. Advance Vermont advocates for credential transparency as a way to increase equity in educational attainment for all Vermonters, while strengthening connections among education, training, and employment.

To help meet the attainment goal, Advance Vermont continues to build support from government leaders while collaborating with education providers, nonprofits, state government, and other community stakeholders to develop MyFutureVT, an interactive portal that serves as a career and education resource hub for learners and jobseekers.

The ongoing credential collection and publishing initiative, known as the Vermont Credential Transparency Project (VCTP), utilizes the Credential Transparency Description Language (CTDL) and Credential Engine’s technical infrastructure to ensure that credential information is available as linked open data. This work aligns with the High Value Credentials for New England initiative, a regional credential transparency initiative created by the New England Board of Higher Education.

By mapping credential data using the CTDL and publishing to Credential Engine’s national Registry, Advance Vermont is providing opportunity seekers with a way to understand and compare education and training programs and find the one that best fits their needs.

Vermont has published over 254 credentials to the Credential Registry!
